Uperdang Gadi Poem by Rob Rowen |

Uperdang Gadi
Far away where
The city lights twinkle
In the distant panorama
we visit a people almost forgotten
There is no government here
No care for kings and presidents
Buildings fall and rock the world
but no echo is felt here
Like and Incan City
clinging to the mountain tips
Uperdang Gadi
beautiful in its living crown
Atop sits a stone fortress
guarding ancient routes to
kingdoms far below
sleeping peacefully forgotten
Life is simple up here
but is there enough food?
from small patches of rice
to feed the children?
We visitors from below
carrying things so basic
yet we are the gods
with our puny gifts
Who would think
backpacks and shoes
would brings such joy to children
surely not in America
We are fed simple meals
rich in flavors foreign to palates
yet served with such love
that bridges our hearts
We who are the givers
end up the given
touched by their warmth
Are we truly not the same?
No we are changed forever |
