Global Action Sweater Program

Nourish Nepal handing out sweaters at Mahakali school

Keeping children warm

The sweater program came from a question that was asked about how come attendance at the schools fluctuated during the winter. We were keeping track of the amount of food needed to do our lunch program and we were using less during the cold months. The answer was obvious, cold weather. These children did not have enough warm clothes to allow them to venture out the one to two miles through the mountain trails to get to school. So that was the start of supplying sweaters to the schools. Once we had done one school immediately the word was out and others wanted them. The 2nd school we did was Surkhandi School and we have to thank Academy at the Lakes School in Land of Lakes, Florida for stepping up and helping us buy the sweaters. Overall we supplied sweaters to ten schools in the mountains above Chitwan.
